I recently implemented this in a different way in this Space. My way is arguably a hack but could potentially be used to do more interesting things if the cache object is persisted.

Is mutating an instance variable guaranteed to be atomic in free-threaded Python?

I don't quite follow. Could you spell out the main point? I'm not sure how the title, the cache comment, and the free-threaded question tie together.
